Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District Visitor Guide
Fierce battles were fought across much of the nation during the Civil War. The Shenandoah Valley saw some of the most significant action: Stonewall Jackson’s 1862 Valley Campaign, Lee’s drive toward Gettysburg, and Sheridan’s 1864 Shenandoah Campaign all played key roles in the course of the war.
This guide was created to help visitors explore that history. The guide is divided into two man sections. The first introduces you to the Valley’s Civil War history. The second tells you about the wealth of sites in the National Historic District where you can learn about – and experience – that history today. Finally, there is a list of resources available cross the Valley to help you plan your visit.
